“I will not live my life according to the instructions of the dead,”
‘A Star I Never Was’ is a one-man show set in the present that follows the story of Mpumelelo “CITY LIGHTS” Dube. From his humble beginnings to brief stardom, Mpumelelo takes the audience through a riveting journey of his life, from his difficult family life with his parents, to his football career in Portugal. This one-hander, poor theatre play touches on toxic male masculinity, addiction, grief and spirituality.
With success and the burden of loneliness clinging so tightly to him, how will Mpumelelo battle his demons and find peace for himself when the world around him is full of dangers and temptations?
