The Graduation of K-C

About

Staged as part of the SA/Irish Season in partnership with the South African Embassy of Ireland, this new production marks the premiere of a compelling family drama written by The Market Theatre's Artistic Director, Greg Homann. Originally commissioned by How Now Brown Cow Productions, the work now comes to the stage in collaboration with them, bringing together the troubled histories of Ireland and South Africa through a deeply personal family story.
Set against the backdrop of the decolonise education campaign, the play centres on a Northern-Irish mother and Xhosa father navigating identity, history and belonging as they gather to celebrate their daughter's graduation from university. A tensions surface and long-held assumptions are challenged; the work explores love, politics and cultural inheritance with wit and emotional depth offering a timely and resonant reflection on connection across borders.
