THE NUTCRACKER- AN AFRICAN DREAM

One Christmas Eve. One mysterious visitor. One extraordinary gift that awakens a world beyond imagination… In a South African children’s orphanage filled with friendship, laughter and the excitement of Christmas, Umoya Wamaphupho, the Spirit of Dreams arrives bearing gifts. For Clara, the eldest of the children, she brings something very, a mysterious Nutcracker, hand-carved in Africa. As midnight falls, the impossible comes alive. Toys awaken, presents dance, instruments find their voices and the wooden Nutcracker transforms into a Prince, sweeping Clara into an extraordinary African dreamland
Inspired by the classic Land of Sweets, Clara discovers a magical kingdom where koeksisters dance, rooibis swirls and African spices fill the air. Here, the enchanting Marula Fruit Fairy reigns in a world bursting with flavour, rhythm and wonder, but the mischievous Queen of Sorts has plans of her own, adding a delicious twist to Clara’s adventure.
Showcasing incredible KZN talent alongside guest performers and artists, The Nutcracker, An African Dream brings together ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, Afro-fusion and gumboot in a vibrant African reimagining of a Christmas classic. A little bit Christmas. A whole lot of Africa. And a world of magic waiting to come alive.
