Join the Friends on a tour of the Ysterplaat Air Force Museum led by Norman Larsen, Vice-Chairman of the Friends of the South African Air Force Museum.
This working museum is the second largest military aviation museum in the country. It houses an interesting and varied collection of exhibits that cover the full period of the South African Air Force’s existence and its operational activities.
The excursion includes an opportunity to look at aircraft which are in the security area.
The SAAF Museum was started in 1984, and the museum was opened in 1987. The museum is situated in one building connected to the 1920 Hangar that holds two aircraft and various engines.
The groups are taken to Hangars No. 3 & 4 at the base, where you can see 13 propeller aircraft, jets, and helicopters, ranging from the Avro Shackleton to the Mirage.
